Gourvennec happy with Hammers
Gourvennec is at Upton Park in a bid to impress Hammers boss Glenn Roeder after previously spending a trial period at Leicester City earlier in the campaign.
The former Marseille midfielder will join compatriots Sebastien Schemmel, Freddie Kanoute and Laurent Courtois at the club, and has been pleased with his early impressions.
He is unsure of the length of his trial but has ruled out a return to France in time for Rennes' League Cup semi-final clash against Lorient on Sunday.
"Glenn Roeder called me at the beginning of the week and he has known about me for some time and wanted to see me play," Gourvennec told his personal website.
"I do not yet know how long I will be with West Ham but I will not be in Lorient for the League Cup semi-final.
"I am here to play, to show what I can do, and frankly, it is a really pleasant environment.
"I already had an outline of what to expect from when I was on trial at Leicester. Training goes well, the players train seriously but everyone is also happy with the training.
"Now, we will see whether this trial can lead to something, as I would like to remain in London. It is a city that I like very much."
Gourvennec also revealed he has already enjoyed a close-up look at the Upton Park pitch.
"I am staying in a hotel at Upton Park and they are currently rebuilding the stadium," he added.
"It is rather funny because my room looks directly onto the pitch. When I open my curtains in the morning, I feel like one of the supporters in the stand."
