Lazio fans invade training ground

A mob of angry Lazio fans have attacked the club's Formello training ground to voice their disapproval over the side's humiliating 5-1 defeat to Roma in the Rome derby on Sunday.

Around 400 fans stormed the training ground to run at the players who were forced to lock themselves in the dressing room for two hours until police arrived to calm the situation.

The players returned to training but the supporters continued to hurl abuse and insults from behind a cordon of police on the sidelines.

The Biancoceleste fans chanted for coach Alberto Zaccheroni's resignation as they are in danger of missing out on place in Europe next season and for captain Alessandro Nesta to hand over the captaincy to Argentina international Diego Simeone.

Nesta along with the son of chairman Sergio Cragnotti, Massimo went to pacify the fans, but the demonstrations could speed up Nesta's departure from Stadio Olimpico.
