Queiroz steps down
Portuguese boss Queiroz, who helped take Bafana Bafana to Japan and Korea, has stepped down after Sono was brought in to work alongside him, in the wake of the poor showing in the African Cup of Nations.
After losing only four of the 20 games that the South Africans played under him, Queiroz will feel disappointed that he did not have a crack at achieving some degree of glory in the Far East.
Meetings took place between Safa officials and the coach, where he told them that he could not work alongside Sono.
Benfica could be the next destination for Queiroz, although there has been interest from China too.
The developments could have repercussions for Shaun Bartlett, after the Bafana Bafana skipper claimed he would not play under a different coach.
Safa's chief operating officer Albert Mokoena admitted: "Safa is concerned and I have asked him to confirm or deny the reports, but he has not written back."
The Charlton striker would play a key role for his country in the finals.
