Sparta snap up van den Bergh

SPARTA ROTTERDAM coach Frank Rijkaard has won the chase for sought after youngster Rick van den Bergh.

A whole host of scouts from De Eredivisie have been casting admiring glances at the FC Kranenburg midfielder in recent weeks, with Sparta winning the race on Friday.

The 21-year-old had trials at FC Groningen and RBC Roosendaal, but he preferred Sparta`s offer and has signed a deal that runs until 2004.

Van den Bergh is one of the most highly-rated players in Dutch amateur football, and the move is a real coup for Sparta - with the chance to work under former Dutch national boss Rijkaard the likely deciding factor for the youngster.
