Midfield duo to lead Foxes exodus

LEICESTER CITY chairman John Elsom reluctantly accepts Muzzy Izzet and Robbie Savage will be leaving the club if The Foxes are relegated.

Dave Bassett's side need a miracle to preserve their top flight status and with a move to a new stadium next season, funds will be increasingly tight.

Izzet and Savage are The Foxes' two most saleable assets and are tipped to lead an exodus once their fate is decided.

Elsom admits the duo will be among the high earners that will be heading for the Filbert Street exit door if his club are relegated, although the Foxes chairman refuses to acknowledge the drop is inevitable.

"What is obvious is that Muzzy Izzet is on the transfer list at his own request," said Elsom.

"We all know there is an offer in for him at the moment and there will probably be other offers in the summer.

"We know that Robbie Savage has been talking quite strongly to the press, saying he thinks he is a Premier League player and that he would like to stay in The Premier League.

"I am not going to say who I shall be putting on the transfer list but if we are relegated we shall need to get our wage bill down.

"It is in our interest if some of our more expensive players do stay in The Premiership with other clubs."

Leicester are 12 points adrift of safety and have just eight matches to conjure up a remarkable rescue act.

But though the odds are stacked against their survival, Elsom is unwilling to concede defeat.

"We do not yet accept that we are relegated," he added.

"We can still rescue ourselves but the odds are long, obviously."
