Lehmann banned

BORUSSIA DORTMUND keeper Jens Lehmann has been banned for four matches for violent conduct during Sunday's 5-1 win over Freiburg.

The 32-year-old German international was caught on television lashing out at Freiburg's Soumaila Coulibaly with his studs and this evidence was used against him before the DFB disciplinary committee on Tuesday.

Lehmann was found guilty of "gross misconduct" and sentenced to watching four games during BVB's title run-in from the touchline.

He had also previously been fined an undisclosed amount by the club for his behaviour.

The incident was not the first time that Lehmann has been involved in controversy on the pitch this season, and it could possibly leave his place in his country's World Cup squad in doubt.

Polls conducted by German media, including the mass-circulation tabloid Bild, have shown that a majority of fans around the country are in favour of leaving the goalkeeper at home during the competition.

Germany's coach Rudi Voller has yet to comment on the situation.
