Ronaldo returns in Brazil win

RONALDO made a successful comeback for Brazil as they beat Yugoslavia 1-0 in Wednesday's friendly.

The Internazionale striker played 45 minutes for the four-time World Cup winners before being replaced by Gremio hit-man Luizao in the second half.

It was the injury-plagued star's first appearance for Brazil since he played against Holland in 1999, as he has been sidelined with a series of knee injuries.

Luizao hit the all-important goal after 72 minutes to give Brazil a hard-fought win overa stubborn Yugoslavia.

Ronaldo had a couple of chances as Brazil dominated the first half, but Yugoslavia looked comfortable in defence.

The 57,000 crowd was growing restless at Brazil's display jeering the team and calling for Romario, who again had been controversially overlooked by coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

The home side lifted the crowd when they finally broke the deadlock when Luizao headed home Cafu's cross.

The win did not stop the Brazilian fans voicing their anger at the final whistle at another below-par display, but the good news was the return of Ronaldo.
