Robert losing hope in France call-up

NEWCASTLE UNITED winger Laurent Robert has admitted that he is unlikely to make France's World Cup squad.

The former Paris Saint Germain star's World Cup dreams are fading fast after again being left out of the squad for last week's friendly win over Scotland.

Arsenal star Robert Pires's injury has possibly opened the door for Robert, but despite the absence of Pires, the left-sided winger is not confident of making Roger Lemerre's final selection.

Robert will continue to fight for a place by playing his best for Newcastle, but he knows he faces a battle for a chance in the World Cup and European Championship winners star-studded squad.

"I haven't been called up for selection since the start of the season, but I'll keep working with Newcastle and we'll see what comes of it," said Robert.

"I will be ready and available if they call, but I won't hold my breath. It's true that there is a free place, but I'm not the only one who can fill it."
