Cardetti may return to River
The striker had signed a draft agreement at the beginning of March with Paris Saint Germain and it looked like the 26-year-old was ready for a second spell in European football, having had a previous stint with Spanish outfit Salamanca.
Cardetti, who has also gained interest from Serie A club Lazio, has been shut out of playing for River after rejecting a new deal at the start of the Argentine season and will be able to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of June, should he so choose.
On Cardetti, Aguilar said: "The situation is not good for anybody but the Cardetti case is still open and we are talking, so he could be back at any time.
"The situation right now neither agrees with the player nor the club."
Contract negotiations could not come at a better time for River, who are suffering through a bit of a goal drought, having not scored since round four of this year's Argentine Clausura.
River boss Ramon Diaz hopes the striker will come back and emulate the 30 goals he scored last season with the Buenos Aires giants.
Aguilar admitted things could go either way with Cardetti, but added: "The fact that Cardetti is not playing does not have anything to do with the supposed lack of goals or some lows in the performance of the team.
"River has very good forwards like (Fernando) Cavenaghi and Maximiliano Lopez. In addition, (Juan) Esnaider can also play, don't forget."
