Claridge eyeing Weymouth buy-out
The former Leicester City, Wolves and Portsmouth hit-man met with directors of the Dr. Martens Premier Division side about a £150,000 takeover bid, with the Dorset-based club currently suffering from debts in excess of £250,000 and losing around £5,000 a week in expenses.
Should Claridge be successful in taking over the Wessex Stadium side, it would be his second spell in football management, having previously been boss of Pompey before leaving the post after a brief five-month spell last season.
Weymouth currently lie in eighth position in the 22-team Dr. Martens Premier, with the division champion winning promotion to the Conference the next season.
Claridge could be successful where Peterborough United's Barry Fry came up short six years before.
After becoming Posh boss in 1996, the charismatic Fry initially tried to buy the London Road side before current Peter Boizot bought controlling interest a year later.
