Nicky lays down the law

BRADFORD CITY manager Nicky Law has decided not to renew the contract of six first team players at Valley Parade this summer in a bid to restructure the club.

The Bantams are languishing in the lower half of the First Division and are keen to rebuild in the off-season in order to launch their return to the top flight.

Veteran midfielder Stuart McCall and former Manchester United star Lee Sharpe have not been offered new contracts, whilst Gareth Whalley, Gunnar Halle, Gareth Grant and Jon Worsnop are all going to be released.

Law has cited the clubs precarious financial situation and restructuring plans behind the decision not to retain the players.

"We have got to cut the budget and I want to bring a different type of player into the club," said Law to bradfordcityfc.co.uk.

"I feel it is only fair to let players who we are releasing know now as it gives them a chance to make contingency plans for the future."

Meanwhile, the club have announced that it has offered a new three-year contract to 22-year-old defender Mark Bower.

"Nicky (Law) wants to build his team around young players and Mark's new deal shows he wants him to be a big part of that," said a club spokesman.
