Flynn appointment collapses for Swans

SWANSEA CITY'S move to appoint Brian Flynn as the club`s director of football has collapsed amid accusations that he held them to ransom.

The Swans claim that the former Wrexham manager demanded that they appoint his old racecourse assistant Kevin Reeves as player-coach at the club.

Veteran players Nick Cusack and Roger Freestone are currently in charge with 36-year-old Cusack being earmarked to take over permanently following the departure of Colin Addison at the beginning of March.

The Third Division club want to offer Cusack a new contract that will keep him at The Vetch for at least another season.

Swansea had agreed personal terms with Flynn and were hoping to complete the appointment prior to Saturdays trip to Hartlepool.

However Flynn's desire to bring in Reeves, who recently ended a 12-year association with The Red Dragons, upset The Swans management committee.

The move has fuelled mounting speculation that the club will move in for former Wales manager Bobby Gould, who recently expressed a desire to join the South Wales side.

"If Swansea are looking for an experienced manager with a track record of spotting talent then they know where I am," Gould said.

Other possible candidates include former Spurs manager Peter Shreeves and ex-Burnley boss Jimmy Mullen.

The Swans are currently lying 19th in the league with two fixtures remaining, with victory required in at least one to secure survival.

Swansea travel to Hartlepool on Saturday and then end the season at home to Torquay.
