Swans hand Cusack permanent role

NICK CUSACK has been appointed as Swansea manager on a permanent basis.

The Swans captain, who had taken over in a temporary role along with Roger Freestone after the departures of Colin Addison and his assistant Peter Nicholas last month, has been handed a one-year deal as player-coach.

Earlier this week the club tried to appoint ex-Wrexham boss Brian Flynn as director of football talks broke down this week with Swansea accusing the former Welsh international of making unreasonable demands.

The problem was believed to have been that Flynn wanted Kevin Reeves as his number two, while the club wanted Cusack in the assistant post.

Cusack along with Freestone has helped the club climb away from the threat of relegation and was delighted to accept the job offer.

"Nick is extremely pleased to accept the club's offer and is grateful for the support he has received and the faith shown in him. He is looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead," said a club spokesman.
