Jimmy closes door on Dutch return

CHELSEA forward Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has admitted he will never return to play in Holland after being slated by the country`s media.

The free-scoring assassin, who started his career at Telstar, claims that no matter how well he plays, the media in his native country give him little positive coverage.

He said "I don't know why I have to keep proving myself in Holland. I always score the first, important goals. I also have the most assists of all players, which tackles anyone who claims I am not a team player.

"But people treat me as though I'm inferior. There is little respect. 'Jimmy is just a goalscorer', they say. I find that belittling.

"The problem is I have never played for a big Dutch club. In Holland they picture a lad who was a failure when he came on the professional football scene. They can't believe I have made it in another country."

But what seems to hurt more, though, is that he feels the media have made him the scapegoat for the national team`s shortcomings.

He added: "In my own country they treat me terribly. After Holland were knocked out of the World Cup, I was slaughtered. TV pundits said I can't play football, that I am a hopeless striker, that the national team play bad because of me and that I am useless at Chelsea.

"They completely demolished me for the eyes of an entire nation. I could not believe it. Everywhere else people respect me for all my goals, except in Holland. But it has always been like that.

"When I became top scorer of England, they said I was not good enough for the Dutch team."

This treatment has prompted the player to insist he will never play in the Eredivisie again, adding: "I could go to Holland and play for any big club now and finish my career there, but I won't."

It would seem as if the 30-year-old is intent on winning trophies with The Blues, as he added: "I am really happy with Chelsea. I will definitely stay until the end of my career. And in that time, I guarantee, we will win the League or reach the Champions League final.

"I would even give up the title of top scorer every season from now on, as long as we win a big prize."
