Rivaldo's injury blow
The Brazilian superstar has been suffering with a knee injury of late and aggravated it in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Celta Vigo.
Rivaldo, along with defender Carles Puyol, are now both virtually ruled out of Tuesday's crunch clash with Real.
The Catalan club's doctor Ricard Pruna admits the diagnosis is grim for the Barca duo.
"Both players will find it virtually impossible to play in the game," said Pruna.
"Rivaldo has a problem with the ligaments in his right knee after completing the game against Vigo.
"With Puyol, he pulled his hamstring and, although sometimes we see miracles with him, it is practically impossible for him to play in the next game."
Rivaldo was only included in the Barcelona side against Vigo because Patrick Kluivert was sidelined.
He then pulled up sharply midway through the second half but because Barca coach Carles Rexach had used all his permitted substitutions, Rivaldo had little option but to complete the match.
