Ancelotti happy with Sheva

MILAN coach Carlo Ancelotti has defended star striker Andrei Shevchenko, who has been the subject of press criticism in recent weeks.

The Ukrainian, who has struggled with injuries, has under performed this term, but the Italian media feel his efforts have been affected by talk of a transfer to Real Madrid.

Despite the speculation, Milan general manager Adriano Galliani and Shevchenko`s agent Oscar Damiani have insisted the inspirational forward will be in Milan next term.

Shevchenko was criticised again on Sunday after failing to break down Roma, but Ancelotti believes the capital team`s defenders were on top of their game.

The forward`s poor run has coincided with a terrible season, by their own standards, for Milan, and the club will hope he can inspire a revival in fortunes next term.

A bright spot for Milan on Sunday was the debut of Senegalese ace Mohamud Sarr.

After the game, the youngster said: "It was great. I could not hope for a better debut: Milan, at the San Siro, against a great Roma.

"I was almost too emotional. Anyway, I did my best and I have to thank the fans for their support."
