Owls announce departures

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have announced that nine of their squad have been released, after their current contracts expired with the South Yorkshire club.

Scottish international Kevin Gallacher and Argentine loanee Facundo Bonvin head the list of departures.

Gallacher only moved to Wednesday on transfer deadline day, but manager Terry Yorath has decided against keeping him.

Bonvin returns to Boca Juniors, after spending a year on loan in Sheffield.

"I have really enjoyed my time here," he said. "It is a lovely club."

Scottish midfielder Phil Scott has also seen the curtain lowered on his Owls career after an injury plagued three years at Hillsborough.

Wednesday have also allowed loanee Jon McCarthy to return to Birmingham.

The club have also told six youngsters that they are no longer required, they are: Adam Muller, Sean Roberts, Richard Siddall, Alan Cawley, Neil Gibson and Anwar Uddin.

Wednesday have not released all their out of contract players and are discussing terms with Calem Connolly, Marlon Broomes, David Burrows and Danny Maddix.
