Pauleta sets conditions to stay

BORDEAUX'S striking sensation Pauleta has stated that he will only stay if the club strengthens the side and mounts a challenge for the Championnat title.

The 28-year-old, who is currently favourite to land the French Player of the Year Award, has scored 25 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions this season.

Although the Portuguese international wants to commit his future to the club, a certain set of conditions must be met before signing on at Parc Lescure.

"I hope to stay here in Bordeaux," said Pauleta. "If the club will accept my conditions, I will remain in Bordelais.

"My first condition is that the club will build a great team, a group that will be challenging for the championship and winning titles.

"For me there is a 100 percent chance I'll stay, but for the club it's 70 percent. It depends on them, but I really think they will make the effort."

If the £14 million-rated striker does fail to agree a deal at the club, Lyon along with Premiership sides Leeds and Fulham are rumoured to be preparing a swoop for the star.

Meanwhile, Bordeaux are believed to be eyeing Boavista keeper Ricardo Manuel Casaca as a possible replacement for Ulrich Rame, who is set to depart this summer for a move abroad.

The Portuguese shot-stopper is also interesting clubs from Spain and England, however, he could favour a move to Les Girondins and link up with former coaches Chalana and Toni.
