Wenger: Freddie can be new Brolin
The Arsenal manager has watched his midfield gem rise from a quality performer to one of the players of the year in the latter half of the season.
Three goals in the two crucial last games have put Arsenal within touching distance of the Premiership title and his manager believes that his charge could become the best Swedish World Cup star since Tomas Brolin took the tournament by storm in 1990.
"It doesn't make much difference to Freddie's performance which side he plays on. It's all down to his timing and his running off the ball," said Wenger.
"He has the intelligence to understand when he needs to make his moves and that's more important than which side he plays on.
"It's very difficult for the opposition to track him because one minute he'll be right, the next he'll be left - and then he'll be in the middle.
"Freddie could do a Brolin, absolutely. It depends on our opponents and how the match is going.
"But he can play a less defensive role than he does now."
Ljungberg's rise to prominence has not been ignored elsewhere on the continent, and after planetfootball revealed that Juventus have been casting envious glances at the Swede, it now appears another Italian suitor is on the scene.
Internazionale, currently in pole position to capture the Serie A Scudetto, are believed to see Ljungberg as an ideal acquisition as they look to build on the successes of this campaign.
