Itonga in Cherries trial

ARSENAL teenager Carlin Itonga has joined Bournemouth on trial with the intention of securing a permanent move to Dean Court.

Itonga has made just one appearance for The Gunners, when he was handed four minutes as a substitute against Manchester United in the Worthington Cup earlier this season.

The 19-year-old Zairean has struggled to make an impact on the first team, though, after being a member of Arsenal's 2001 FA Youth Cup-winning team.

During his time with the youth sides at Highbury, Itonga notched the remarkable feat of scoring seven goals in a game against Ipswich.

However, he has been told he can quit North London and has already undertaken trials at Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday and Grimsby without success.

He will now be hoping he can impress The Cherries in a friendly against Southampton on Tuesday evening.

Bournemouth have just been relegated to Division Three and that level could prove to be the optimum starting point for Itonga to kick-start his career.
