Ben Askar leaves QPR

QUEENS PARK RANGERS' chances of signing defender Aziz Ben Askar have been dashed after the Frenchman returned to his homeland for family reasons.

The 26-year-old has spent the whole season on loan at Loftus Road from French Second Division side Laval.

Earlier in the campaign R's boss Ian Holloway had declared his determination to make Ben Askar's stay in the capital permanent.

But after making 20 appearances, and being sent off twice, Ben Askar has headed back to France for personal reasons.

"It is a family rather than football decision," acting R's chairman Nick Blackburn told the club's official website.

"He was very happy playing at QPR and had a great relationship with all the staff and especially with the supporters. But after speaking to his wife the couple want to raise their child in France.

"We are very disappointed by this but his wife was unhappy and this was making him unhappy so we can all understand why he has made this decision.

"When I spoke to him he said he loved playing for QPR and wanted to thank the staff and fans for all their support and encouragement but this was a hard decision and he had to put his family first."
