Jaures to stay at Auxerre

AUXERRE defender Jean-Sebastien Jaures has dashed Leeds United's prospects of capturing him in the summer by signing a new three-year contract.

The left back was available on a free transfer at the end of the season and had been linked with a switch to Elland Road.

But Leeds, along with Jaures's other suitors Anderlecht and Lens, will have to turn their attentions elsewhere.

Jaures is believed to have had tentative contact with Leeds and Anderlecht but has been persuaded to stay with Auxerre.

The 24-year-old has been a virtual ever-present under Guy Roux this term and his commitment to the club is a major end of season boost.

Meanwhile, Jaures's team-mate Lassina Diabate is in discussions to extend his stay with Auxerre.

Diabate is meeting with club officals to reach an agreement on a deal, as his present contract expires in the summer.
