Kanoute reveals Reds talks

WEST HAM striker Freddie Kanoute has admitted that he has spoken to Liverpool over a proposed move to Anfield.

The 25-year-old Frenchman has emerged as a striking option for Gerard Houllier, along with Nicolas Anelka and Djibril Cisse.

Hammers boss Glenn Roeder is desperate to keep hold of his star men at Upton Park and although Kanoute has said he is happy in East London, the former Lyon man is interested by the prospect of joining The Reds.

"It is true I had a contact," Kanoute told L'Equipe.

"Liverpool seem interested and me too, even if I feel very well in West Ham and I still have two years left on my contract.

"Liverpool are a club that regularly play in the highest places in the league. I will know more on Tuesday."

Houllier has said however that PSG's Anelka is his first choice buy and will decide on whether to complete a swoop for him soon.

Should Houllier decide against a move for Anelka, Kanoute would then be in the frame and his interest in a move to Anfield will alert the coach for a future move.
