Inter offer Gamarra one year deal

PARAGUAYAN defender Carlos Gamarra is close to securing a dream move to Internazionale according to the official site of the Italian club.

It was believed that Inter's Milan neighbours AC had been tracking the former AEK Athens star, but Hector Cuper has swooped to possibly grab some veteran influence at the back for his side.

Inter had been close to getting Gamarra last year, but the player moved to Greece on loan from Brazilian side Flamengo.  Now they have offered the player a 12 month contract, with some reports claiming he has already agreed to the transfer.

Gamarra is likely to travel to the World Cup finals in Japan/Korea as Paraguay's captain in the absence of Jose Luis Chilavert, at least for the first game against South Africa, due to suspension.

The 31-year-old was highly impressive in AEK's Uefa Cup run last season, in which they eventually bowed out to Inter and it was during the two-legged match-up that Milan were believed to be tracking him.

As well as Flamengo and AEK Gamarra has also played for Independiente, Benfica, Corinthians and Atletico Madrid and he has admitted that he could retire from international football after the World Cup to give younger players a chance.
