Zidane injury is a worry for France

FRANCE`S World Cup preparations have been thrown into disarray following confirmation that midfield superstar Zinedine Zidane has a slight tear in his thigh.

The Real Madrid ace was forced from the field of play during the 3-2 win over South Korea shortly after setting up a chance for David Trezeguet, and although it initially seemed a precaution, coach Roger Lemerre has confirmed the injury.

Ahead of more detailed tests that will be carried out on Monday, Lemerre said: "He felt a small twinge, it is a tear in his left thigh.

"We think that some small muscle fibres may have given and when it is a muscle we are always very worried because we don't know how long it will last.

"We must wait for the doctor's diagnosis. This evening there are only 22 players and the team is less strong."

France`s hopes of defending their crown will diminish if the player, felt by many to be the best on the planet, is forced to miss some or all of the competition.

If Zidane is forced to sit out the tournament it will not only be a blow to France, but also to the hordes of fans who will miss out on the chance to witness his sublime play.
