Sandford cut by Blades

SHEFFIELD UNITED have released veteran defender Lee Sandford as the club look to cut back their wage bill.

The 34-year-old, who has 17 years of playing experience, began his career with Portsmouth back in 1985.

However, after six seasons with The Blades, after joining from Stoke for £500,000, the veteran has been left looking for a new club for next season.

The Basingstoke-born man made only six appearances for the Bramall Lane club last term, but played seven times for Stockport County whilst on loan.

It is thought the former Stoke City star is exploring the possibilities of moving into a more player/coaching role next season as his playing career comes to an end.
