Chiesa Lazio switch falls through
After missing most of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury, a factor which probably directly contributed to The Viola's relegation to Serie B, both the club and player are happy for him to play out the last year of his contract elsewhere.
It seemed that Chiesa would go to Stadio Olimpico but Chiesa was unwilling to drop down from his current sky-high wages and Lazio were not prepared to pay him this amount.
"Enrico has one year left in his contract, and I see no reason for him to accept a wage-reduction," the player's agent Vincenzo Rispoli said.
"Chiesa has to be respected, so at this point in time the deal is off. We are talking about Chiesa - not about any old player. If Lazio want him they will have to make a real offer to Fiorentina and to me.
"Lazio can't ask for a bargain price. I'm waiting for new talks between Lazio and Fiorentina, and I'm waiting for good news. He is fit and ready to play again."
Rispoli revealed that a number of other clubs are interested in the player and called for Lazio to up their offer if they want to sign Chiesa.
"If Lazio want him, they will have to buy him, otherwise we will listen to other offers," Rispoli added.
"Milan and Internazionale want Enrico. I've also had calls from England, but Chiesa would prefer not to leave Italy."
