Boyd receives MBE honour
The 36-year-old has become one of Scotland's most respected players, having won 71 caps, as well as being his country's captain and is fifth on the all-time most-capped list of Scottish internationals.
Boyd began his career at Motherwell before moving south to Chelsea, then returning to Scotland to join The Bhoys.
During his time at Parkhead, Boyd has won three Scottish championship medals, two Scottish FA Cups, and three Scottish League Cups, including a domestic treble in his testimonial year two seasons ago.
Boyd will join a list of Celtic legends who were given the honour of an MBE - they include Billy McNeill, Paul McStay, and Danny McGrain.
Having received the news of his honour, Boyd said he would make the most of it with his Celtic team-mates, when pre-season training begins next month.
Boyd told the Daily Record: "I'm not going to let this go by without living it up a bit.
Boyd added: "I don't know who put me forward for this.
"It is a great honour for me, my family and my wife Rhona's family as well.
"It is a very humbling experience because I'm sure there are plenty of other people in football and other walks of life who deserve this.
"But it is great to be recognised for everything I've achieved in football."
