Fenerbahce claim Ortega deal

ARIEL ORTEGA looks increasingly likely to complete his mooted move to Turkish football - with Fenerbahce confirming on their official site that they have beaten off English competition to snap up the Argentine star.

Ortega has not shone in this World Cup - but very few of his compatriots have either as Argentina bowed out at the first round stage.

However, the diminutive number 10 is a brilliant playmaker and was heavily linked to Newcastle United before plumping for Turkey.

"Ariel Ortega is a major leading player," stated the official site.

"Big clubs like Newcastle United wanted the player but Fenerbahce have done a deal with Ortega.

"He will play for Fenerbahce next season."
