Arsenal still keen on Emre

ARSENAL look set to step up their interest in Turkish World Cup star Emre Belozoglu, according to his agent.

The 21-year-old Internazionale midfielder was linked with a move to the Highbury giants at the end of last season, and it would seem his efforts in the Far East have caught the eye of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

French coach Wenger is a confirmed fan of Emre, and will have had a close look at the youngster as he is commentating for Japanese television at the World Cup.

The player`s agent confirmed Arsenal have made enquiries, and feels Emre`s future could be sorted in less than a fortnight.

Emre`s representative Ahmet Bulut said: "Arsenal want Emre. They asked about his price before the World Cup.

"Inter said they wanted $17 million (£11 million), but I think they will now want more because Emre has played so well at the World Cup.

"I will go to Italy soon to discuss the transfer.

"In 10 days I feel we will know where Emre will play next season."

Emre`s cultured ball play and incisive running have earned him the tag of the 'Turkish Maradona', and his qualities would certainly be useful to the Arsenal squad.

With Robert Pires sidelined with a knee injury, Emre could be an ideal replacement but the sizeable asking price may be the one stumbling block to any deal.
