Fenerbahce: Ortega's coming to Istanbul

FENERBAHCE have confirmed on their official website that Argentina World Cup midfielder will arrive in Istanbul on Sunday and complete his transfer to the Turkish giants for next season.

The River Plate man, who was linked with a move to the Premiership and Newcastle United, is set to sign with his new club in a matter of days.

Ortega was unimpressive in Argentina's ill-fated World Cup finals campaign in the Far East, who crashed out of the group stages behind Group F winners Sweden and runners-up England.

The move will be the 28-year-old's second spell in European football, having spent four seasons in Spain and Italy with Valencia, Sampdoria, and Parma, before going back to Argentina with his first club in the Buenos Aires giants.

Fenerbahce announced on their official website last Tuesday that Ortega was coming to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium club.

"Ariel Ortega is a major leading player," stated the official site.

"Big clubs like Newcastle United wanted the player but Fenerbahce have done a deal with Ortega.

"He will play for Fenerbahce next season."
