Caniggia given two match ban

CLAUDIO CANIGGIA has been suspended for two games and fined $5,000 for his sending off during Argentina's game with Sweden in the World Cup final group stages.

The Rangers striker was sent off from the bench after swearing at United Arab Emirates official Ali Bujsaim.

Fifa confirmed the news on Monday and it ends a disappointing tournament for Caniggia.

Having been picked ahead of the likes of Javier Saviola, Caniggia was then injured during training and missed both games against Nigeria and England.  After been sent off in first half injury time in the match versus Sweden, the Argentinian ended up not appearing on the pitch.

Given that Caniggia is close to international retirement, the fact his ban will only commence during a qualifying or World Cup final game would appear to have scuppered his future with Argentina.
