Lubo to quit in December

FORMER Celtic ace Lubomir Moravcik has confirmed that he will retire from professional football at the end of this year.

The Slovakian has been a key figure in Celtic`s dominance of the Scottish game in the last two years, but decided to leave the SPL at the end of the previous campaign.

He accepted a short-term deal with Japanese J-League outfit Ichihara, but is determined to hang up his boots in December.

He said: "I am here until December and then I will retire. I have been a professional footballer for 20 years and it's time to stop.

"There will be no more short-term contracts. In fact I plan not to look at a ball for six months."

Moravcik believes the change in pace will benefit him, adding: "Coming here was my best option. I enjoyed Scotland and playing for Celtic gave me the happiest, and most successful time, of my career.

"But I was tired. Believe me, if I felt even a small part of me saying I could manage one more year I would have stayed.

"Football is about pleasure and having the desire to train properly every day. My legs and mind, however, just didn't give me that message. They told me it was time to stop.

"As much as I wanted to play in the Champions League again and help Celtic try to win three titles in a row I just wouldn't have been able to manage it."
