Ballack fears referee decisions

MICHAEL BALLACK has admitted his fear that Germany could become the latest team to be subjected to some questionable refereeing when they come up against South Korea in the World Cup semi-final.

The co-hosts have taken the scalps of Italy and Spain en route to the last four, but some controversial decisions by officials have aided their cause and left their opponents complaining of home bias.

"Their opponents have had an incredible amount of bad luck and we can only hope we fair better," said the Bayern Munich man.

Italy had a goal disallowed in the last sixteen clash while Spain had two disallowed in the quarter final loss, leaving the Spaniards furious and feeling aggrieved at the referee's decisions.

1974 German World Cup winner Paul Breitner also insisted Fifa were making a mistake by not using the top referees such as Pierluigi Collina in the big games and handing it to relatively inexperienced officials.

"It's like taking a ref from the German non-league and asking him to handle a Bundesliga match. I just hope that we don't get a linesman from Greenland on Tuesday," said Breitner.
