United pull out of McGowne deal

DUNDEE UNITED have pulled out of the deal to sign Kevin McGowne from Kilmarnock.

The Tangerines had been all set to sign the 32-year-old on a free transfer, however Killie demanded a fee at the last minute for the star, killing off the deal.

Manager Alex Smith revealed the club were prepared to assume the remaining 12-months left on the player's contract and had agreed a deal for the defender, but the move is now finished.

"The deal is dead," said Smith. "I'm not prepared to pay a transfer fee.

"Simply buying out his contract was what had been agreed."

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies` late transfer fee demand could scupper the club's hopes of signing Jim Hamilton from United, as the striker is rumoured to be top of his summer shopping list.
