Bayern seek Deisler compensation

BAYERN MUNICH are seeking compensation from the German Football Association (DFB) after new signing Sebastian Deisler arrived at the club carrying a knee injury.

Deisler joins Bayern from Hertha Berlin for a fee in the region of ‚é¼9 million but the former are unhappy that the 22-year-old playmaker is not fully fit for the start of the season.

"A solution must be found because the injury occurred in an international game," said general manager Uli Hoeness.

"The DFB has just taken for four or five weeks. Now is the time to give a little."

Deisler suffered a knee injury in a friendly with Austria prior to the World Cup and had to sit out as the Germans went all the way to the final only to lose to Brazil.

The gifted playmaker will see specialist Dr Richard Steadman in two weeks and go under the surgeon's knife in a bid to step up his fitness and be fit for the Christmas period.

Meanwhile, Hoeness is predicting an almighty battle between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern for the German title this season.

Dortmund snatched the title last term, ending Bayern's hopes of a fourth successive crown and Hoeness believes "there will be a real tussle" between the arch rivals in 2002/03.
