Riise pens new Reds deal
Reds boss Gerard Houllier has moved to tie the Norwegian to a longer deal after his fantastic first season at Anfield.
The former Monaco man played in every Premiership game for Liverpool last season and did well at both left back and on the left side of midfield.
His tenacity and boundless energy has endeared him to the Anfield faithful, and his thunderbolt left foot has grabbed him a surprising number of goals.
Riise's pile-driver against Manchester United in the 3-1 win, brought him the affection of those on The Kop and his new deal will be a welcome boost to everyone at the club.
Still only 21, Riise has proved to be a bargain buy, and the £4 million Houllier paid to lure him from the Stade Louis II seems totally justified.
Riise will take his place in Liverpool's squad for next season, but, thus far, his place in the side is under no threat from the new signings heading into Anfield.
Meanwhile, Liverpool's bid to add Senegal star El Hadji Diouf to their squad looks to be moving a step closer as his French side Lens appear to have given the go-ahead for the deal.
Lens have also looked to Senegal for their own additions as defender Abdoulaye Diagne-Faye moves to France signing a five-year deal.
