Toffees seal Yobo deal
Toffees boss David Moyes has completed his first signing as Goodison Park boss by adding the African to his ranks.
The 21-year-old will sign an initial 12-month contract with an option for a further four years in a deal that could eventually be worth £5 million.
Yobo still has to secure a work permit but Moyes is delighted to have landed a player he sees as one of the top African stars.
"As far as I'm concerned, he's Nigeria's best player and I'm sure he'll go on to captain his country," Moyes told the club's website.
"He played in several different positions for his country in the World Cup which gives us a great opportunity to use him just where we see fit. He's also got terrific pace and he's a good all-round player."
Yobo was happy to be leaving Le Championnat behind him and says he had always fancied a move to England.
"I am very happy to be here at Everton," said Yobo. "For a long time I've wanted to come to England to play in the Premiership, it's a great opportunity and I'm delighted.
"I think it's the best league and every good player wants to be in the Premiership and have a taste of what it's like."
Meanwhile, Everton are still hot on the heels of Derby County goalkeeper Mart Poom, although the clubs have still not agreed on a fee.
After having one bid rejected, Everton are believed to have come back with an improved bid of £3.5 million but Rams chief executive Keith Loring says that they are still keen to keep Poom at Pride Park.
"Everton are keen on Poom and we are keen to keep him, "said Loring.
"They have gone away to consider the situation and we'll see what happens."
Moyes is looking to make Poom his second signing of the season if an agreement can be found.
