Shakhtar admit Aghahowa bids

UKRAINIAN champions Shakhtar Donetsk admit they have received offers from numerous clubs for Nigerian World Cup striker Julius Aghahowa.

The 20-year-old hit-man is highly sought-after by clubs in Europe with reports linking the rising African star to Premiership champions Arsenal.

Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov confirmed on the club's official website that the Donetsk Central Stadium club have received offers for Aghahowa but that the youngster is still under contract with the Eastern European club.

Akhmetov has further reiterated that Shakhtar will only let the Nigerian star move on should an offer come in that 'will hold the club's nerves', with the Ukrainian Premier League already two weeks into its new season.

The highly-touted Aghahowa made the move to Shakhtar following a club record £5 million transfer from Tunisian side Esperance after a superb display for The Super Eagles at the 2000 African Cup of Nations.

Aghahowa scored his country's only goal against Sweden at last month's World Cup finals as Nigeria finished bottom of the 'Group of Death'.
