Flamengo: Romario deal off
The Rio de Janeiro giants admitted that they could not afford the 1994 World Cup winner's wages and the Red and Black will aim for a transfer deal with Real Madrid's Savio or Parana striker Marcio.
On the decision to drop the Romario deal, Flamengo vice president Walter Oaquim said: "Our club has a budget that must be respected and we cannot pay what is an excess of money.
"We would all like to have Romario in Flamengo and enjoy his football but there is a big difference between the amount he wants to get paid and what Flamengo can offer to him."
Meanwhile, Flamengo's board have stated that everything is close to being agreed with Savio for a return to Brazilian football, with only smaller details needing to be finalised with the player's agent Joao Henrique Areas and the Bernabeu giants.
The Cariocan club hope to have the goalscorer on loan for a season while offering the Spanish giants half the rights to Gremio hit-man Rodrigo Fabri.
Flamengo are also negotiating with Marcio for a transfer with the club's president Gilberto Cardoso Jr. talking with the striker's agent Juan Figer.
