Mols reveals quit thoughts

RANGERS striker Michael Mols has said that he almost left the club after becoming increasingly frustrated at Ibrox, and Greece could be a destination to resurrect his career if he fails to prove his worth in Glasgow.

The Dutchman has struggled with serious injury for the last three years and is not a regular in Alex McLeish's starting XI at the moment.

The 32-year-old has been battling back from major knee surgery and a whole host of other injuries, and that led to his unhappiness in Glasgow.

Mols says he thought about a return to Holland in the summer but has decided to stay at Rangers and prove himself to the fans.

"I had it in my mind to go back to Holland in the summer and play," Mols told the Daily Record.

"I saw my friends again and I liked it. Everything seemed okay but then I realised I was still a Rangers player.

"I have one year left on my contract and it was always my intention to play again for this club.

"If I had had to leave then I wanted to have the feeling that I'd done everything because last year I didn't have that feeling as I wasn't 100 percent fit.

"That's why I want to start afresh this season, no worries, no fears, nothing. I just want to start from scratch."

With just a year left on his current contract, Mols is not looking for an extension and this year could be his last at Ibrox, and he is determined to go out on a high.

"I'm not playing for a new deal," he insisted.

"I just want to play to get back in the team and if I have to leave Rangers then I want to leave with my head up high and the feeling in my heart that I gave everything for the club."

The former Utrecht man is in America playing with the rest of the Rangers squad and is now a target of Greek side Akratitos.

New manager Frans Adelaar is a great admirer of Mols and tried to take him back to Utrecht last season, and would now like him at his Greek club.

"I am in touch with Michael's progress in Glasgow with Rangers because Jan Wouters just happens to be my best friend in football," Adelaar told the Scottish Mail.

"Last season, I wanted to take Michael back to Utrecht and had planned to do that with a loan arrangement.

"Unfortunately, my technical director Han Berger did not see the merit in such deals and it never happened.

"I have just arrived in Greece and I am assessing the players I have inherited at the club.

"But Michael is a terrific player and I am always interested in someone of his ability. As soon as I know the exact position at my new club, we will take it from there."
