Seaman signs new deal
The veteran shot-stopper had been eager to prolong his career following his generally impressive World Cup for England.
Despite his high-profile mistake in conceding Ronaldinho's deceiving free-kick which knocked England out of the competition, Seaman had demonstrated he had lost none of his ability.
Seaman was initially downbeat in the aftermath of the quarter final exit to Brazil but had recently declared his intention to continue between the posts for The Gunners.
He had been in discussions about extending his stay in North London and he will again set the standard for The Gunners' younger keepers to follow.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is confident Seaman will remain at the peak of his powers as Arsenal prepare to defend their Premiership crown.
"David has extended his contract for one year. That's official - it was signed last night (Tuesday)," said Wenger.
"If it hadn't been signed, you never know but I never really imagined David Seaman leaving Arsenal now, at this stage of his career.
"He will come back strong and determined, like he always has been when he's had a blow.
"It was a big disappointment for him at the World Cup but he's really determined to come back and keep going.
"I personally hope he will not give up his international career and that he will keep fighting for his place in the England team."
Wenger made the announcement after their opening pre-season friendly against Stevenage Borough during which summer signing Pascal Cygan made an assured debut.
The French defender was composed at the back as The Gunners romped to a 6-1 victory over the Conference outfit.
