Dutch players and coaches pick nominees

HOLLAND'S players and coaches associations have announced their nominations for this year's Footballer of the Year awards to be held in early September.

Former Celtic and Nottingham Forest striker Pierre van Hooijdonk (pictured) receives a nomination for the Eredivisie's Player of the Year award, after a successful season with Feyenoord as the Rotterdam giants won the Uefa Cup.

He is joined by PSV Eindhoven midfielder Mark van Bommel and Ajax's Romanian international defender Cristian Chivu for the top player award.

The Goalkeeper of the Year award will be contested between PSV's Ronald Waterreus, Feyenoord's Edwin Zoetebier, and Utrecht's Harald Wapenaar.

Groningen's Jordi Hoogstrate, Feyenoord's Robin van Persie, and Ajax's Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam are nominated for the Talent of the Year award.

Coach of the Year nominations went to Feyenoord boss Bert van Marwijk, RBC Roosendaal manager Rob Maaskant, and NAC Breda boss Henk ten Cate.

Feyenoord, RBC Roosendaal, and Utrecht earn nominations for the Team of the Year award.

The winners will be announced on September 4 at a gala awards ceremony in Eindhoven.
