Boston`s League place confirmed

BOSTON UNITED have been handed a fine of £100,000 and a four-point deduction for contractual irregularities, but will still be allowed to take their place in Division Three next term.

The Football Association came to the conclusion on Friday, after Boston pleaded guilty to all charges against them.

There were rumours that they could be sent back to the Conference, so many will feel they have got off lightly.

Despite Boston chairman Des Wood describing the sanction as 'excessive' and planning an appeal, Dagenham & Redbridge boss Gary Hill feels they have been very lucky.

After an epic battle, Boston pipped Dagenham to the title on goal difference and an intense rivalry was forged during the course of the season.

At the time of the investigation Dagenham were looking for the FA to demote Boston and allow them to play in Division Three, so Hill feels The Pilgrims got off lightly.

"Justice does not seem to have been done," Hill told Sky Sports. "They have not been made an example of.

"They will receive a payment in excess of £100,000 for reaching the Football League, and there will be spin-offs as well as increased season-ticket sales.

"The other teams in the Conference must look at seeing a team who won the Conference by seeking an unfair advantage, and feel a bit aggrieved.

"Frankly it is a joke.

"It`s left the door open for anyone who wants to do what they`ve done to act in the same way.

"How can you deduct League points when they broke Conference rules?  Whether we went up or not, this is a mockery."

Pilgrims chairman Wood confirmed following the hearing that manager Steve Evans remains suspended until an investigation is concluded.
