Barca: Rivaldo will not go to Real
Real have already stated that they will vie for the Brazil forward's signature, after he was released a year early from his contract with the Catalan giants.
However, Barcelona spokesman Josep Maria Coronas has categorically told the anxious fans of the club that Rivaldo will not join Real Madrid.
"The fans of Barcelona can be calm," stated Coronas. "Rivaldo will not sign for Real Madrid."
Other clubs that have either shown long term interest in the player - or who have been linked in recent days - include Milan, Lazio and Manchester United.
All of the focus at Old Trafford this summer has rested firmly on Rio Ferdinand, but the prospect of signing one of the world's best players will at least merit consideration.
Italian clubs have been relatively quiet on the transfer front this summer - with financial constraints hitting many of the big clubs hard.
Lazio have already denied that they will come in for the player, seemingly leaving Milan in pole postition amongst the Serie A suitors.
Rivaldo will be demanding astronomic wages following his release, as well as a hefty signing on fee, but at just 30-years-of-age, the forward will attract massive interest from every top club in the world.
Real's statement that they would be keen to link Rivaldo up with former Barca team-mate Luis Figo suggests that they will not pay heed to warnings, and may still be very much in the frame for the World Cup winner.
Rivaldo has briefly explained the chief reason for his release - a mutual dislike of Louis van Gaal.
"I don't like van Gaal and he surely doesn't like me either," admitted Rivaldo.
"It's something that comes from our past experience together. I believe that this was the main reason for my exit."
