Cha joins Bayer
Cha had been tipped to join the Champions League runners-up throughout the summer after impressing in his nation's magnificent World Cup campaign.
The 22-year-old follows in the footsteps of his father Cha Bum-keun who enjoyed a successful stint in Die Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt in the 1980s.
Cha senior confirmed his son had signed for Leverkusen but would be heading out on loan for at least one season.
"He is now a Bayer Leverkusen player," he told the Korean media.
"However, he will be loaned to another club for one or two years to hone his skills before he can play for Leverkusen."
The younger Cha arrives in Germany from Korea University and had been in protracted negotiations with Leverkusen before sealing his switch.
The forward passed a medical last week and is discussing a loan move to several German clubs, with Eintracht, Duisburg and newly-promoted Arminia Bielefeld in the hunt.
Eintracht had been initial favourites but they appear to have slipped behind in the race with Cha leaning towards a move to Duisburg.
Bayer general manager Rainer Calmund has advised Cha to take up the Duisburg option because they will play attacking football and be more beneficial to his development even though Arminia could offer the forward top flight action.
