Mallorca tie up Lussenhoff deal

MALLORCA have completed the formalities of their swoop for Tenerife defender Federico Lussenhoff on a season-long loan deal.

Lussenhoff had been eager to quit Tenerife following their relegation from La Liga and the temporary transfer suits all parties.

Tenerife had been keen to shave their wage bill and with them only being allowed to field two non-EU players in the Segunda Liga, it solved that dilemma.

The 28-year-old is hoping to obtain Spanish citizenship shortly and that could enable him to return to Tenerife next summer if they regain their berth in the top flight.

It was his non-EU status that scuppered any prospects of clinching a move to Newcastle United earlier in the summer as Lussenhoff was determined to stay in Europe.

He has also extended his contract with Tenerife until 2005 to enhance his transfer value if Mallorca choose to decline the option to purchase Lussenhoff on the expiration of the loan deal.

Mallorca had also been searching for defensive reinforcements and they will be hoping Lussenhoff impresses during his stay on the Balearic Island.
