Spurs make Morientes move
Spurs are desperately scouring Europe for a new forward and they made their move for Morientes on Tuesday.
A delegation from the North London club, led by chairman Daniel Levy and agent Jose Veiga, met with Real's sporting director Jorge Valdano.
Spurs made their offer to Real, who were willing to listen to offers for a player who featured prominently for them last season - scoring 18 goals in 33 appearances.
The Spanish outfit are willing to do business and agreeing a fee does not seem to be the obstacle behind a potential deal - although they do want more than what is being offered, but trying to convince the player to leave La Santiago Bernabeu could be a different matter.
The Spanish international has been linked with moves away from Real ever since he joined from Zaragoza five years ago, but he has always battled his way into the team and is known to be the favoured strike-partner of Raul.
Real are still considering whether to make a move for Ronaldo and if the Brazilian did arrive then Morientes's future would be in doubt.
Spurs are thought to have turned to the continent after finally giving up on Sunderland's Kevin Phillips, but they may not have anymore success with Morientes.
A contingency plan, though, is thought to be in place in the shape of Deportivo La Coruna's Dutch striker Roy Makaay.
The 26-year-old, who rejected a move to Galatasaray earlier this week, is thought to be available for transfer and the player himself has stated that he will only move to another Spanish side or a team in Italy or England.
Spurs could make an official move for Makaay if they fail to progress with the Morientes deal within the next 48 hours.
