Milan close on Nesta

LAZIO president Sergio Cragnotti and Milan general executive Adriano Galliani are meeting in Sardinia on Friday, according to reports in Italy, to discuss the possible transfer of Alessandro Nesta to the Giuseppe Meazza.

The future of the Italian international has been in doubt for some time with clubs ubiquitous in Europe linked with his signature.

Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus have been credited with an interest in the 26-year-old stopper but Milan appear to be in the box-seat for the defensive stalwart.

Having already captured Rivaldo, Sam Dalla Bona, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Clarence Seedorf in the summer, Milan have shown they are not afraid to splash the cash and that is what they will have to do to land Nesta.

Offers upwards of £30 million are expected by Lazio who are keen to hang onto their prize asset but need to clear mounting debts accumulated after years of over-spending.
