Vieira looking to extend Arsenal deal

ARSENAL midfielder Patrick Vieira has stated that he is intending to sign a contract extension despite his current deal with the North London club running until June 2004.

The French international made clear on Friday that he wants remain with The Gunners and admitted that he and the club were looking to extend his deal to remain at Highbury beyond the two years left on his current deal.

Vieira said: "Indeed, we are thinking about a new contract because it is important for me and I would like to stay here as long as possible.

"End my career here? Why not."

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old has expressed his anger at Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson for trying to disrupt him after the Scot made claims that Vieira wanted to join the Old Trafford club.

Ferguson claimed that 'Vieira would have loved to have come here (to United) last year but they (Arsenal) wouldn't let him'.

The Frenchman hit back at those claims by stating that he has never had any problems with his current employers and has always wanted to stay at Arsenal.

Vieira added: "I know the truth, the club know the truth, and I have never had any problem with Arsenal.

"My relationship with the manager and with the chairman is excellent.

"I know what I'm doing and I know I have a contract."
